TRUE LOVE
KISS ME, GUIDO

The third student will do the same thing about KISS ME, GUIDO.

THE FIRST THREE TO POST WILL BE EXEMPT FROM THE WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT.
Everyone else will be free to choose one of the three movies and REPLY to the initial recommendation.
Marty was hilarious, and absolutely worth watching! It is the most relaxed and comical film, in my opinion, we've had to screen so far. Surprisingly, I wanted to see more....like what happened, a week later? A month later...? In an effort to not give anything away, I'll conclude by saying watch the film!!
ReplyDeleteI would recommended Marty to others as well. I thought Marty was funny , both character and movie. I was also expecting to see what else happened when he called Claire.
DeleteI also recommend Marty. It is a great film. It has heart, charm, and relatable characters. This movie is lovable on all accounts: writing, characters, music, direction, setting and especially the performances.
DeleteLooks like I'm watching Marty after True Love.
DeleteI agree I also wanted to see more!!
DeleteI went with Marty because of this comment. I was not left upset by my decision. Thank You for this!
DeleteThanks for the recommendation. I'm glad I watched it. I think it can be considered a classic in the "romantic comedy" genre.
DeleteI agree with your post! The film was surprisingly simple and extremely well put together. I am usually not one for films that are light on plot but I was left with a warm feeling after screening this one.
DeleteI enjoyed watching this movie, very entertaining.
DeleteI enjoyed watching True Love and I would recommend it to others to watch as well. I was able to relate to many aspects of the movie and characters. The characters seemed like fun and typical young adults. I loved the 80's theme/style of the movie. Although, I felt like the scenes in the movie jumped around too much. It made the movie a little confusing which I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteI have seen parts of this movie. It was alright. Nothing special. I think Marty is the better film overall.
DeleteThe movie was too sappy for my taste. If there was more action and drama, I probably would have enjoyed it more.
DeleteWhen watching kiss me Guido it was showing a stereotypical "italian".I thought it was interesting to see how stereotyped it was. I remember the beginning of class the word "tribe " basically two norm tribes so different in ways are becoming one. So if you want to see this movie it's up to you not saying it was horrible but telling you that it's showing a stereotypical view through out the movie.
ReplyDeleteI decided to watch this movie too, just because everyone else choose to see Marty. It was a different type of movie that I don't normally watch.
DeleteI enjoyed watching Marty. It is a classic film. Marty is a movie that can be summed up simply in three words. It's very honest. Ernest Borgnine and Betsy Blair play the two main characters, Marty and Clara. The bulk of the movie takes place over one night, the night Marty and Clara meet. Everything is really that simple. The thing that is great is that neither of the characters is anything but human. They are flawed, they are insecure, and they are awkward around each other and don't know how to act in certain situations. The chemistry between Blair and Borgnine is absolutely beautiful. They give us a relationship that is real. There are moments in the movie, that I won't give away. They are human, they are flawed, and its beautiful to watch. I was surprised by the charm of the movie and I recommend it to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your comments. Marty is one of those movies where the subject matter is fascinating and endlessly complex as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's a great film and highly recommended.
DeleteBy looking through comments I think I would watch Marty..
DeleteWatching marty because of this comment!
DeleteI agree honesty was definitely something you got out of watching it, its pure humanity at its finest, flaws and non flaws etc., besides the laughs
DeleteI think the awkwardness between the two characters is what made the film worth watching for me, it added some humor that I think everyone can relate to.
DeleteI thought I would be the only one intrigued my Marty! The fact that it is quite relatable is another reason that it was worth watching!!
DeleteTrue Love was better than I thought it would be. Surprisingly there were no mafias involved. I thought the movie was going to be dull originally because of the time frame, however it was good. The movie shifts through characters very fast, but its expected with big Italian families. If you love romantics, this movie will be great for you. The ending has a small twist. For the guys reading this, there is no violence or comedy, its a roller-coaster of emotion, so get the tissues out.
ReplyDeleteTrue Love is more of a romantic film, which is probably why I enjoyed it. I didn't like how the movie shift so quickly between scenes and characters. It made it a little confusing at times. Haha, I like how you ended your recommendation towards the guys.
DeleteI liked this movie too. I thought the end was what made the movie interesting.
DeleteI watched Marty and I thought it was hilarious the only thing that I didn't like was the ending I wanted to know what will happen next when he meets Clara the second time However it's worth watching.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend people to watch Marty, it is a simple yet funny movie. I was hoping to see more. True Love was good also. I like watching movies based on years back although it got a little confusing.
ReplyDeleteI chose to watch Marty because of posts recommonding it.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy this movie, it was different yet exposed a lot of the Italian expectations(Marty's mother). I thought i'd also be unpleased by the ending, being that everyone seemed to want more, but I like the ending. It was straight to the point and allows for us to wonder whether Clara took up his offer or not.
I watched Marty and I loved it! I would have never watched it if this assignment wasn't given so I am happy it was. It was an honest, classic, comical film. I like how this film just shows the honestly of the characters, their lives and all their flaws. I could see how this film could make people uncomfortable because it is so raw. I didn't love the ending, but it is worth watching.
ReplyDeleteI decided to watch Kiss Me, Guido, While watching the film, I thought of the attempting to persuade viewers to not only accept the gay lifestyle but to experiment with homosexuality. “Kiss Me, Guido” is a film that I enjoyed watching and recommend watching just cause it does have some humor in it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteMajority of my classmates chose to watch Marty, so I went with the crowd. I also enjoyed this movie due to the fact it’s very rare to find a movie like this nowadays. This movie had all the elements in a movie that makes up a story. From comedy to drama, you name it. In the end, I felt like it was a Christopher Nolan movie where it ended in a form of the audience’s interpretation. And yes, I would recommend watching Marty!
ReplyDeleteThe movie i decided to watch was Marty. It was a light hearted movie to watch. Out of all the movies we watched during the semster, this one was fun, enjoable compared to the rest. I loved the character of marty. He was portrayed as such a nice, understanding kind of guy. I would definetely recommend this movie to watch. It's worth it.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I chose to watch Marty. Wow. I'm a guy who likes movies that you can just sit back and laugh at and I did at times with Marty. I laughed at how Marty and Clara were awkward at times around eachother, because believe it or not honestly speaking I can relate, I'm the same awkward way most of the time when I meet a new woman myself. I also loved the pure human-ness of this film. You had everything we as humans do, awkwardness and character flaws, I really got a sense of simple humanity out of this, and made it even more enjoyable for me to watch. I really enjoyed that I was able to laugh at it and its pure reality feeling it had, as I was able to relate to some of the moments in the film which I will not mention, and would definitely recommend it to anyone that's looking for a nice and very down to earth film.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to add, this film In my opinion was probably one of the best one's we've had the privelage to screen for this class, I can see why Ernest Borgnine was awarded over Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, as he really was absolutely brilliant in the role of Marty.
DeleteYES!! I couldn't agree more!
DeleteI watched Kiss me, Guido (Could not resist a controversial film) It was humorous, and cute. The acting was up to par and the story line was very interesting. I liked Guido A lot and I think that the film explored serious topics. A bit stereotypical? Yes...but hey what else is there for Italian Americans?
ReplyDeleteI watched Kiss Me Guido. The movie is as silly as the title. It deals with Italian stereotypes and homophobia. I also watched True Love, which I enjoyed more. True Love was less stereotypical and had a more dynamic plot than Kiss Me Guido.
ReplyDeleteMarty is a great film about following your heart rather than letting stereotypes and tradition drag you down. The movie was a very simple movie that took place in a matter of a couple of days, from the night Marty meets Clara till he has the courage to ask her out again. The chemistry between them is what makes the film humorous yet relatable. Overall I would recommend this movie.
ReplyDeleteI too watched Marty and I really enjoyed the film. The stereotypes in this movie are not as in your face as other movies which I liked. It was more about Italian men getting married and trying to have a relationship outside of their mothers. i wish that the movie went a little longer to see what happens between Marty and Clara. Did they make it? Or did Marty listen to his friends and mother and stop talking to her. In the end, I would recommend this movie
ReplyDeleteI recommend watching Marty if you want to see an honest love story. Before Marty meets Clara he feels hopeless, like he'll never find love. He feels that he's just a fat, ugly butcher and he'll die alone. But in Clara, he finally finds someone who loves him for who he is. There's nothing sappy about that, it's real love. The movie is funny and sweet, a good balance of humor, drama and romance.
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend watching Marty. It's a refreshing reminder that love is not solely based on the opinions of friends, family but rather how the individual feels. Clara essentially brought out the best of Marty and vice-versa. In the end, isn't that matters? True Love, to some degree, serves as a cautionary tale. If one were to get too caught up in the moment of traditional love and marriage, you'd get Micheal and Donna.
ReplyDeleteFrom reading the initial recommendations, I was interested to watch Marty. It was a great film about love and loving someone not based on their attractiveness. Marty has a wonderful personality and Clara came into his life at the perfect time. This was a comical film as well and definitely worth watching.
ReplyDeleteI liked watching Marty because it was quite entertaining, related to another movie I've seen before, although that movie came out after this one. The recommendations were to watch this movie, so I picked Marty, and I most likely would have picked it on my own volition anyways.
