FOR OCTOBER 2 "L'EMIGRANTE"
This is a hard one: what question, related to L'EMIGRANTE, would you ask your classmates to initiate a discussion on the film?

L'EMIGRANTE was one of the examples that showed us how person can change living in a foreign country. Would you be able to leave everything behind (your family, friends, home) and move to live somewhere else? (notice: emigration used to be uncommon in America, but by the statistics of 2013 nearly 3000 Americans left the US and renounced their citizenship)
I would of asked the same question. I dont think I would be able to do it. It would be so hard. Ive never even moved from the house I live in. I cant picture myself just leaving everything behind.
Did you like Rosita's character? Would you say she treated Peppino without respect at time; like she was better than him? Or do you think this was all out of love?
Since New York is a melting pot of all cultures , I'd miss all the different types of food. But if I moved to another country I'm sure I'd find a lot of great food.
How would it feel to leave your home country to start anew in another country?Would you be able to leave behind family. friends, traditions, values, etc..?Why would you actually want to start all over again?
Leaving my home country would be very hard to do, but at the same time, going to a new country would feel like a new adventure. If I could take my family with me, I would. It would be hard to leave them behind. I would start over if there were no decent jobs in my home country or if some kind of nation-wide crisis happened that made it difficult to live here such as a widespread famine or war.
well, I think we're all affected by our surroundings and overall, Peppino acted differently in order to fit the character who would work for Don Nicolone…At times, yes, he may of seemed to get caught up in this character but at the end of the day I think he was well aware of who he really was.
Hmmmm.... Not sure I can answer this, it's easier for a girl to dress as a boy than the opposite. I guess it would depend on the circumstance; good point.
I don't know if I would cross dress to get something I really wanted but it reminds me of the movie She's the Man when Amanda Bynes cross dresses and pretends to be her brother so she can play soccer on the men's team at her brother's school against her own school to show how well she can play even though she is a girl.
How do you feel about Peppino's view of America? He kept mentioning how he disliked it. Do you feel offended? Do you agree or are you able to see where his dislike came from?
I personally can see his point. I agreed with what Don Nicolono said about America. There are a lot of people that come to America believing that they can have a better life here but in reality enter a cold world of hardship and struggle.
Do you think Peppino regretted saving Don Nicolone life when they were being followed by a car, after finding out that his dad was murdered by Don Nicolone?
Peppino is stubborn, he would have continued his journey regardless of any threats, if he didn't I assume he would be home crying to his mother about seeing his father again in his dreams.
How do you think the girl felt kissing Toni's teethless mouth? Just kidding! Do you think Peppino regretted getting involved with Don Nicolne and his clan?
Upon gaining enough wealth, would you return to your home country or accept defeat and call this your new home? Would you go back to visit or bring all of your family to America for the sake of a better life?

ReplyDeleteGood question! I believe at first it was a shock for her to have fallen in love with someone like Peppino. But in time, I believe she truly loved him.
