1) First, comment on any DETAIL (not the main topics) of last class that stuck with you.
2) Wait until at least 15 students have left their comments: at this point read the comments and choose the one that made a particular impression on you and tell the author the reasons of your choice.
5 minute college was funny I enjoyed it. Also when we spoke about how the view of the monkey was used then and how it is still used now. It such a eye opener for me that racism has becomes a social norm in every race.
ReplyDeleteAll you need to know in spanish is ¿Cómo está usted?
ReplyDeleteThis was really relatable. I took spanish in high school and forgot alot of the things i learned. One thing i never seem to be forgetting is the como usta usted.
DeleteThe way we should post on the blog. "Simple and straight forward". This will be hard for me because I'm all about the "fluff" in a post. I use filler words…a lot! Was this straight forward enough?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I like using filler words it helps me find a path to what i am trying to say.
DeleteI was surprised that some of the quiz questions were about the email instructions that the professor gave us.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I was a bit taken aback at first but hopefully I didn't do too poorly!
DeleteI agree and I like that the quiz was straight forward and you didn't have to think to hard to answer the questions.
DeleteI was not expecting some of the questions that were on the quiz. I was expecting more questions on the cartoons, but not about the email subject and file name, which I probably got wrong! But I'm not complaining, i'll take those kind of quizzes any day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment. I don't know how many times I watched the cartoons for details that I was thought would be on the quiz.
DeleteThe video with Father Guido Sarducci was funny and so true about the 5 minute university. I shared this video with some of my friends and family and they thought it was so funny and enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! The video was hysterical and totally accurate. Memorizing a million and one things for an exam, just to immediately forget the information the next day!
DeleteSomething that stuck with me was when the professor said to not read other peoples comments. I remember thinking what if we all think a like. I was the first to comment in the first post so I did not read anything. I read the comments posted after and I did see the trend of stereotypes but I can see how stereotypes would be the main thing people wrote about. Now I feel people are more likely to not speak on what really stuck out to them like the main subject but find smaller details from what happened in class.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same exact way!
DeleteI agree. I think its natural for people to do that because they are afraid of voicing their opinions sometimes because of judgements people might make. I think after it was done once, now everyone will feel more comfortable just saying what they feel.
DeleteThe professors rant about how we structure our sentences made me realize that we never get to the point, we always save the juicy part for last. I also recall when he said he was disappointed in all of us for the blog assignment. Although we maybe different, most of our thoughts about class overlap, so many find it nerve-racking to write something else.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching the faces of my classmates when the professor explained how he wants the class to write on their blog posts. While other found it to be a bit harsh, I personally loved it and found it quite amusing. At our age, we should all know how to write with proper grammar. Therefore, I believe his "rant" was necessary.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on the amusing part, however there are a few like me that like to sugar coat essays and build up suspense indirectly. There's nothing wrong with it, everyone has different styles of writing. Ultimately its how you get to you're point that matters.
DeleteThe cartoons stood out to me big time. It's not like I didn't know people created cartoons like the one we saw about Obama, but it was crazy how similar they were to the ones about Italians. White America will always pick on one "tribe" to display negatively to the public.
ReplyDeleteThe 5 minute university example was the truth on what happens after graduation. Most students have a degree in their hand and doesn't remember most of the material learned in school. Great stereotype by Father Guido Sarducci!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, I feel like with colleges they make us take too much courses outside our major, so when we finally start our career we really only remember what we want to remember. Like me im taking only one course in my major and every course is something needed for the school requirements, when I graduate im pretty sure Im going to remember the stuff that mattered to me. Great video
DeleteThe detail that stuck out to me last class was the OBAMA cartoons, I thought it was very disrespectful that somebody made up cartoons disrespecting Obama just because of his race. To me I feel Obama works hard and actually has to work twice as hard because of idiots like that giving him a hard time. The gorilla picture made me a little emotional also
ReplyDeleteIn the long run its always going to happen to anyone that tries to break the norm. I wouldn't be surprised to see similar disrespectful cartoons of Hillary Clinton, if she ran for president.
DeleteYou should read youtube comments. The cartoons are vanilla compared to those.
DeleteAfter class I was confused about the attendance procedure. I was confused in the sense of why we're doing it, in this particular way, but not the actual procedure itself. Maybe, something went over my head.
ReplyDeleteFrom our last meeting, Professor's talk about the origins of the word "paddy wagon" stuck with me the most. As a history major, I've encountered the word many times in my classes and studies over the years. However, for some reason I never gave much thought into the story behind the term and it was extremely enlightening to get a concrete explanation.
ReplyDeleteThe video with Father Guido Sarducci was funny and hysterical. It was pretty accurate about how someone takes up a class, learns all that information, and then when the class is over, they completely forget what they learned. The cartoons also stood out because of the harsh reality of racism and how it is prevalent.

ReplyDeleteSomething that stuck with me from last class was the way to take notes based on the proffesor's way. Everybody has their own way's of taking notes and it was nice to see a different style of noting taking notes. Another thing i really liked was the speech we saw in the beginnig of class. It had meaning to it and had humour.
I Loved the 5 minute clip in the beginning. I also did not understand the need for responding to your email that we were present. I think its useless and not needed upon the other multiple emails you send us. Another thing that i kept thinking about was your way of writing sentences. I agree that we shouldn't make our writings wordy but I felt that each person should be given the right to express themselves in the way that feels most comfortable for them without being penalized for it.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that stuck with me most was the harshness that the Professor displayed while he was in one instance telling us to write openly and freely but criticizing at the same time. I think it was unnecessary, and inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteYou said it. "If I had to comment" I would say that this is just not right and makes no sense. See what I did there? hah
DeleteThe 5 minute video about college was something that I had to show my friends again. Another thing that struck me was the simpler ways that I can write without rewriting the question.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that stuck with me was when you were going over the email procedure and the way you wanted people to write. Personally I disagreed with the way that you wanted us to do certain things. I left class thinking about why in the world do you have us do all these small things. I thought about it for a while and came to several conclusions/ ideas. I figured you have done this for a while so there must be a method to the madness. I also figured students probably try to get over on you so that s why you have a precise way to do everything that is expected.
ReplyDeleteI agree I've never taken a class with a professor who followed these procedures. The beginning of the class it was mentioned that we should write freely, but then we were given guidelines on how we should be writing.
DeleteI really enjoyed the 5 minute college video. I thought it was so funny, later that day when I got home I watched some of the other videos from Father Guido.
ReplyDeleteThere was an old cartoon of an Italian being portrayed as an ape-looking creature shining shoes, and a more recent cartoon of Obama being portrayed as a chimpanzee. Two different time periods, two different scenarios, same racism.
ReplyDeleteI was in the second grade at the time, that day I was sick and stayed home from school. What I remember is my mother rushing to the T.V and watching a news cast that had a lot of static and got cut off mid broadcast.
ReplyDeleteThe quiz was kinda brief in my opinion. I thought was interesting was that I had thought I gave you the correct email and actually didnt, meaning I wasnt awarded any of the points for that question I could guess. Typical stupid me. Ha.
ReplyDeleteAlso that little thing about how not to write certain things such as "being that" and "if I had to comment". I write the way I talk, and I do talk like that. Its gonna be hard for me to get out of the habit. I may never actually be able to. Its just second nature for me to write how I speak. In an English class, I probably wouldnt do to well with that but hey, good thing this isnt an English class. Sometimes, youve just gotta be able to sit back and laugh at yourself.
ReplyDeletethe video is pure comedy I really enjoyed it.
